Workout Round Up (June 8-14th)

This was the first week logging all workouts in my new training journal. The days and weeks seem to fly by lately, so it was nice to spend time reflecting and writing at the end of each day during the little window of time I have to myself in the evenings before bed.

I have not been following a specific training plan since running the Santa Barbara Wine Country Half Marathon five weeks ago (my first half post pregnancy). I’m signed up for the Nite Moves season with the hubby, so I’ll be running a 5k race every Wednesday this summer, but right now I basically run when I want, as fast or slow as I’m feeling up to that day, for however long I feel like.

Here’s what went down last week:

Monday, June 8th – 3.5 mile BOB stroller run.  It was supposed to be an easy run, but I was feeling strong and felt like going faster, so pushed the pace a bit.  Windy!

Tuesday, June 9th – Rain!  Took an unplanned rest day.

Wednesday, June 10th – Nite Moves 5k My first solo run in over two weeks. It felt so different and easy running up shoreline hill without the BOB jogging stroller that I went out too fast. Or, maybe it was my form was different from no stroller pushing, either way I paid the price. I got a nasty side stitch coming downhill to the finish and was forced to put the breaks on. As a result, I ran positive splits and almost had to crawl across the finish line, but still managed a respectable time. Official: 27:11 4/15 AG

Thursday, June 11th – Blue Steel and AAA turned 10 months! Short 2.6 mile recovery run (solo).

Friday, June 12th – 5.8 mile BOB stroller run. I was planning to make it a 10k (6.2 miles) but ended .4 short.

Saturday, June 13th – Family was in town to see my cousin Tori graduate from UCSB. I managed to squeeze in a 12 mile, 45 minute ride on the trainer during the boys nap in-between family activities. I felt stronger on the bike this week than last.

Sunday, June 14th – 30 minute home yoga practice (so needed this) and added in core work for good measure.

Total mileage: 15 running and 12 on the bike. Plus some yoga which I need to carve out more time for in my training.

Focus for the upcoming week: speedwork!

My next (semi) big race is the Semana Nautica 15k on the 4th of July. The plan is to increase my weekly mileage and add speed workouts, so I can set a PR!

Happy training!
